As a three-year member of the Oklahoma City University volleyball program, Whitney Kress has broken the record for most career kills.
Kress, a junior from Edmond, Okla., has posted 1,064 kills for the Stars. Kress has been a prominent member of the OCU volleyball program since its inaugural year.
“It has been a huge honor to be able to be with the program from the beginning,” Kress said. “I will be sad to leave the girls this year.”
Although Kress has one more year of eligibility left, she has decided to forgo the opportunity to play next season and will be graduating in May with a degree in biomedical sciences. After graduation, Kress plans to further her education in physician’s assistant school.
“Even though I will be graduating, I will definitely be back to cheer on the Stars next year,” Kress said. “I want to stay close so that I will be able to still be a part of the program.”
With 16 kills in the match against Oklahoma Baptist, Kress was able to surpass the previous record set by Amy Clendenin in 2006-07.
“I didn’t know that I was close to breaking the record until it happened during the game,” said Kress.
Kress has been able to help build the OCU volleyball program from the ground up and has many goals for her team and the future of the program.
“As a team we have faced a lot of obstacles this season, and now it’s time to see how we can come together and play,” said Kress.
