Away from home for the first time, Caroline Dixon is in the process of making cultural adjustments. She’s setting Oklahoma City University records as she goes.

Dixon, a freshman from Manchester England, is this week’s Super Star of the week and is boasting the honor of being Sooner Athletic Conference and NAIA offensive player of the week as well.

At the age of 21, Dixon moved here to go to college and continue her soccer career.

“I decided I was getting a bit old and needed to go to college,” said Dixon. “I was looking for a school with a good soccer program and good academics.

“My main goal is to play professionally someday. I want to stay at OCU for four years and then hopefully be able to sign with a professional team.”

Although Dixon’s performance on the soccer field hasn’t suffered, the adjustment of moving to America has been hard.

Dixon said, “I plan to go home this summer because I really miss my family.  It has been a big adjustment for me moving here since I have never really been away from home for more than three weeks.”

Even with the culture shock, Dixon has been able to maintain her soccer skills and has been thriving on the field.

In the last three games, Dixon has scored a total of 10 goals along with four assists and has a total of 14 goals in the season. In the match against Mid-America Christian, Dixon broke the record for single-match points, posting 13 and tied the record for single-match goals with five.

While OCU lost its first three matches, Dixon shouldered the blame as she went scoreless. Dixon finally broke the drought in the fifth contest, scoring the winning goal as OCU won in overtime.

The Stars have won their past eight games with Dixon being a factor in that success.

“At the beginning of the season I was putting the blame on myself because we were struggling and I wasn’t scoring goals,” Dixon said. “I promised Brian Harvey that I would score 25-plus goals for him this season.”

At this rate, she may reach her goal.

“We are doing well right now and I definitely think we can win conference. Our team goal is to make it to nationals,” said Dixon.
