After three years away from competitive running, Davy Green has come back to the sport. She is running for the Oklahoma City University cross country team in their inaugural season back on campus.

This week’s Super of the Week, Green has gone from walk-on to potential competitor for the Sooner Athletic Conference title. Green finished 11th overall, sixth among conference runners in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational on Saturday.

Green, a senior from Cleburne, Texas, came to OCU to pursue a degree in vocal performance and now plans to further her OCU career so that she can run.

“If I go for a double major I would be able stay at OCU for another year,” said Green. “Having the opportunity to run Cross Country for one more year is my main motivation to stay.”

After having success at OCU, Green recruited her twin sister Diane House to the team.

“Being the only girl at the beginning of the season was intimidating, but it only motivated me to try harder,” Green said.

Green has made time in her schedule for practicing both cross country and opera. Green also sings opera.

“I probably won’t have a social life between singing and running, but I’m the type of person who likes being busy so it will be good,” Green said.

Although Green has not been running competitively since high school, she has been faithful to running in her daily life.

“Last summer I was not able to run as much as I would like so I thought getting back into shape would be hard,” Green said. “The first practice of the season I ran five and a half miles, and I thought this is what I need to be doing. Getting back into shape has been easier than I thought.”
