Although Andy Fitzpatrick is not new to the game of soccer, he is one of the new members of the Oklahoma City University men’s soccer team.
Fitzpatrick transferred to OCU this season and has been dominant in the goalie position leading the Stars’ defense with 20 saves for the season.
“I feel like I need to prove myself coming in on such a great team,” Fitzpatrick said.
Fitzpatrick joined the OCU team and made an impact this fall becoming the starting goalkeeper after playing for Maple Woods (Mo.). Fitzpatrick has also been honored by the Sooner Athletic Conference as the defensive player of the week.
“I wanted to be able to work more and get my name out there,” said Fitzpatrick referring to his year at Maple Woods. “One of the main reasons I wanted to play on this team was because of the guys. They are a group with great potential and skill. It is really an honor to be able to play with them.”
Fitzpatrick has also furthered his soccer career by playing in the Premier Development League on the Kansas City Brass team for two summers. “Playing professionally is a goal of mine, but for right now I want to get my degree,” he said.
Fitzpatrick is honored to be playing with such a great team and has high hopes for the season.
“The first goal is to get to Nationals, and the second is to win,” Fitzpatrick said. “Being ranked eighth makes us a target. But if we continue working hard and playing our game we can reach our goals.”
