Two years ago Brandon Hull's soccer career came to a halt.

During his senior year at Yukon, Okla., Hull tore his anterior cruciate ligament, causing him to redshirt his first year at Oklahoma City University. Hull’s freshman year was spent rehabbing rather than playing.

“This situation made me realize that it all can be taken away," Hull said. "I appreciate the game so much more and work harder to do my best.”

Hull has now been a starter for the men’s soccer team for two years. His knee does not seem to be a problem. After his performance this past weekend against Baker (Kan.) and Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.), Hull has been named the U.S. Army Super Star of the Week.

Hull a sophomore from Yukon, has helped lead the Stars to 6-0-1 start and the No. 11 ranking in the NAIA.

“This year we have a good blend of old and new players. Last year we had injuries that did not allow us to have much depth. This year we have more depth causing competition among the team for spots,” said Hull.

OCU defeated Baker 3-0 on Friday night, then beat Hannibal-LaGrange 3-2 on Saturday. Hull had a goal in each game. Both were headers off the crosses from John Dill.

The win against Hannibal-LaGrange didn’t come easy, Hull said.

“We were tired from the night before and the game was very physical," he said. "It showed us we can pull out a win when we don’t play our best.”

Playing soccer is helping Hull pay for school while he prepares for his long-term goal, becoming a doctor.

“I’ve always wanted to be one," he said. "I like the idea of helping the physical needs of people and seeing immediate results. That’s why I want to be an ER doctor.”
