Dillon Blackmon has gone from being one of the biggest guys in his weight class to the smallest one in a larger weight class.
At the end of last season, Blackmon moved up in weight class from 165 to 184. When Blackmon lost he was one match away from becoming an All-American.
This season, Blackmon had to once again move up a weight class to 197.
“It was hard at first, it’s a really big class and I am under sized for the class I am in. I had a rough start but things are turning around” said Blackmon.
After placing fourth at the Missouri Valley Open and qualifying for Nationals Blackmon is this week's Super Star of the week.
“He has improved since last year were he was a back up wrestler to a starter this year," OCU coach Archie Randall said. "He has qualified for nationals, is ranked eighth and we feel that he can compete for all-American this year."
Blackmon said, “Qualifying takes the pressure off me at the regional, the last tournament you can qualify at. You never want to go into that tournament not qualified like I did last year. I have started wrestling well these last two weeks, getting used to the new weight. I finally got ranked, went 4-2 at Missouri Valley and qualified for nationals."
