Oklahoma City University senior Sheridan Horner netted two goals and passed out two assists to help push the No. 6 Stars past Doane (Neb.) and book her fourth trip to the NAIA Championships.
“I played in the tournament with Ottawa also, and it is a great accomplishment,” Horner said. “It is something to mark off my bucket list and tell my kids later on in life.
“This by far the most talented team I have played with. Every single player is so talented and everyone has their roll and they play them so well. I’ve never been more confident going into the tournament.”
Horner, a forward from Choctaw, Okla., scored 12 goals and tallied six assists on the season and is this week’s Super Star of the week.
Horner was a key member of an OCU offense that scored 69 goals in 22 matches this season.
“Playing on a high scoring team is great” Horner said. “What I love about it is the fact that our team is so selfless. You could go up to Meghan McMahon or Allison Worsham and neither one of them will know exactly how many goals they have scored.”
Horner has spent three seasons with the Stars after playing her freshman season at Ottawa (Kan.).
“I wanted to get away from home,” Horner said. “I thought that playing college soccer in another state would be a great experience, but I hated and wanted to look for schools closer to home. The main reason I chose OCU is the fact that it was close to home.”
After her soccer career, Horner’s has big career plans.
“I want to own Nike,” Horner said. “I probably have more shoes in my closet than anyone else on campus. I am absolutely obsessed with Nike.”
