Allie Glazner has brought the unexpected to Oklahoma City University’s women’s soccer team.
Glazner entered the 2011 women’s soccer season projected to play defense. Her coaches pegged her on defense, but found that she had the versatility and skills to play in the midfield.
Two goals and two assists in five matches later, Glazner, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., is making herself at home in the midfield, and is this week’s Super Star of the Week.
“Coming in to it I thought I was going to like the back better, because that is what I am used to,” Glazner said. “After they pushed me up I really enjoy attacking, so now I enjoy left mid.”
She has shown the ability to play in both spots, but according to Glazer her game preparation doesn’t change from match to match.
“It doesn’t really change, because before the game I never know which one I am going to play,” Glazner said. “One of our outside backs is hurt sometimes, or she is not there because she is a music major, so it just depends what I’m going to play. I don’t even know usually.”
Glazner scored her first collegiate goal in OCU’s home opener against Missouri Valley on Sept. 4. The Stars, ranked 13th in the NAIA, won 2-1.
“It did not feel real at first,” Glazner said. “I scored and it was like, what in the world? I just scored in a college game.”
Glazner is majoring in accounting, but does not plan to be a normal accountant.
“At first I was going to try and major in criminal justice, but then I went into accounting because I want to do something with the FBI,” Glazner said. “It’s a big dream for me.”
Although she looks at home on the field, according to Glazner, appearances can be deceiving.
“Usually when I am on the field I should feel really comfortable,” Glazner said. “But before every game I am just as nervous as I was before any other game. I get so nervous so easily.”
