Oklahoma City University's volleyball team has turned around its record in five-game matches.
The Stars have gone 3-0 in such matches this season after going winless last year. One reason OCU won its latest five-game match was the play of Erin Hirt.
Hirt, a senior from Victoria, Texas, is this week's U.S. Army Super Star of the Week. She is also this week's NAIA Region VI and Sooner Athletic Conference setter of the week.
Hirt rung up 65 assists vs. Baker (Kan.), including 11 in the fifth and deciding game, to establish a new single-match career high and school record. This past week, Hirt averaged 11.77 assists and 2.38 digs per game. She had 50-plus assists in four out of the Stars' six matches.
This past weekend in the Baker Invitational, the Stars pulled out the wins against Benedictine (Kan.) and Baker (Kan.) in five-game matches.
"I am very proud of our team for pulling out a win in a five-game match," Hirt said. "It shows how much we have grown since last year. Our freshmen stepped up at very crucial times. We couldn’t have done it without everyone."
OCU coach Jen Salmans said, "Erin did a great job distributing the ball to the hitters. When the offense was struggling with passing, Erin did a great job keeping the offense going and continuing to get the ball to the hitters."
