Four Stars gain NFCA all-American honors

Fox represents OCU on NAIA scholar-athlete list

LeeAnn Lopez became a two-time consensus NAIA all-American.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Tori Joyner, LeeAnn Lopez, Jamie Rateliff and Drew Wright of Oklahoma City University have been tabbed National Fastpitch Coaches Association NAIA softball all-Americans, while the Stars' Danielle Fox garnered NAIA scholar-athlete honors.
Joyner, Lopez and Rateliff were on the first team, while Wright made the second team. OCU tied with national champion Concordia (Calif.) for the most all-Americans on the NFCA squad.
Joyner, a senior from Mustang, Okla., posted a .430 batting average with 12 doubles, two triples, 27 RBIs and 51 stolen bases in 2013. Joyner led the NAIA in hits (98) and ranked second in steals and steal attempts (54) and third in runs scored (77) and at-bats (228) this season. Joyner took consensus first-team all-American honors this year.
In her career, Joyner was three-time NFCA all-region and first-team all-Sooner Athletic Conference, two-time all-SAC gold glove and a two-time consensus all-American. She hit .404 with 268 hits, 203 runs scored, 32 doubles, four triples, 77 RBIs and 130 steals in three years at OCU.
Lopez, a senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, hit .366 with 17 doubles, 20 home runs and 82 RBIs this season. Lopez ranked second nationally in RBIs and third in homers and total bases (152), fourth in total fielding chances (457) and fifth in putouts (426). An at-large choice this year, Lopez became a two-time NFCA first-team all-American.
In her OCU career, Lopez became four-time all-SAC, three-time SAC player of the week, two-time all-American and all-region and NAIA player of the week for March 26-April 1, 2012. She was a consensus all-American as a senior and a consensus first-team all-American as a junior.
Rateliff, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., amassed a .379 average, 15 doubles, a triple, 11 homers, 52 RBIs and nine steals in addition to a 23-5 record, 2.22 earned run average, 19 complete games, six shutouts, three saves and 79 strikeouts in 186 innings pitched. Rateliff pitched a complete game against USAO on March 28 in Chickasha, Okla. She took the designated player/utility spot on the first team.
Wright, a senior from Moore, Okla., had a .382 average, 16 doubles, a triple, 12 homers and 65 RBIs. Wright led the NAIA with 150 assists while ranking 10th in runs driven in.
Fox, a junior from Yukon, Okla., has compiled a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average majoring in criminal justice. To attain the NAIA scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status. Fox finished the year with a 2-2 record, 3.50 ERA, a save and 32 strikeouts in 34 innings.
The Stars went 51-15 with the NAIA Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket title and its 27th trip to the NAIA Championships. OCU paced the NAIA in runs scored (493), RBIs (429), doubles (136) and at-bats (1,867) while ranking second in hits (666) and slugging percentage (.567). OCU leads NAIA softball with national championships captured in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2007 led by NAIA Hall of Fame coach Phil McSpadden.
