Herron takes 26th in U.S. Olympic Trials

OCU assistant establishes new personal-best marathon time

Camille Herron
HOUSTON – Oklahoma City University assistant cross country and track coach Camille Herron finished 26th at the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials on Saturday.
Herron, seeded No. 38 going into the race, finished with a new personal record time of two hours, 37 minutes and 14 seconds.
“I ran a PR and continue to make steady progress,” Herron said. “I felt I ran a bit too conservatively, so I'm highly motivated to keep training and go for another breakthrough performance.”
Herron, a two-time qualifier for the Olympic Trials, competed for the United States in the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico on Oct. 23. Herron finished ninth in the race and was the only American to finish.
OCU coach Conor Holt trains Herron.
“I'm very happy with my living and training situation in Oklahoma City, and I'll strive to be a contender at the next Olympic Marathon Trials in four years,” Herron said. “I give credit to my husband and coach, Conor Holt, for getting me this far and having a vision for what I'll do next.”
Herron had been the only American runner to finish in the XVI Pan American Games on Oct. 24 in Guadalajara, Mexico. She turned in a time of 2:51:29.
Herron plans to next compete in Grandma's Marathon on July 16 in Duluth, Minn.
