OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has signed three-time state champion Kasey Jones of Battle Mountain, Nev., and state finalist Heath Boyd of Edmond, Okla., to its wrestling program.
The Stars have also added Nathan Oglesby of Weatherford, Texas, and Kevin Secrest of Pinellas Park, Fla., for the 2010-11 season.
Jones was a three-time state champion for Battle Mountain (Nev.), taking the 145-pound Class 2A state title as a senior. Jones compiled a record of 156-41 in four years. In addition, Jones was a three-time zone champion.
With the Stars, Jones is expected to compete at either 141 or 149 pounds.
“Kasey is a strong contender for a starting spot,” OCU coach Archie Randall said. “Those are weights where we have tried increase the competition level on our team.”
Boyd earned Oklahoma Coaches Association all-state honors as a senior for Deer Creek (Okla.). He finished with a record of 37-5 during his senior season and took fourth place at 160 pounds at the Class 5A state tournament.
During his career, Boyd had a 117-37 record and qualified for state all four years. He was twice selected to the Oklahoman all-city team and four times named to the all-Edmond team. To see NewsOK video of Boyd signing his letter of intent, go here.
“Heath Boyd comes from a family of wrestlers,” Randall said. “He is projected to battle Mark Meyer for the starting spot at 157.”
Oglesby compiled a record of 80-30 in three years for Weatherford (Texas). He finished 30-9 as a senior and qualified for the state tournament at 160. Oglesby was also a regional placer and a district champion as a senior.
“Nathan is projected to compete at 157,” Randall said. “He is joining the team to further his career in wrestling.”
Secrest wrestled for Dixie Hollins (Fla.), going 38-12 and with the district heavyweight championship as a senior. Secrest finished his four-year career with a 117-52 record. He was also a four-time honors student and earned academic all-conference as a junior.
“Kevin will battle for the starting slot at heavyweight,” Randall said.
