OKLAHOMA CITY – Lily LaVelle of Oklahoma City University garnered pitcher of the year, while Autumn Mayberry of the Stars was named freshman of the year in all-Sooner Athletic Conference softball honors.
LaVelle and Mayberry headlined six all-conference selections for OCU. Amanda Howard and Ashley Wilburn also took first-team acclaim, Nathalie Timmermans picked up second-team honors and LeeAnn Lopez made honorable mention for the Stars. Jen Davis was named to the SAC gold glove team.
LaVelle, a sophomore from Bridge Creek, Okla., went 20-4 with a 1.41 earned run average with 179 strikeouts in 144.1 innings pitched. She notched 16 complete games, six shutouts and a no-hitter against Rogers State on May 4. LaVelle picked up SAC pitcher of the week for March 29-April 5.
Mayberry, a redshirt freshman from Mustang, Okla., hit a team-high .431 with three home runs, 34 RBIs and 14 stolen bases.
Howard, a senior from Strathmore, Alberta, Canada, posted a .413 average, 10 homers, 38 RBIs and 11 steals. She was the 2009 NAIA and SAC player of the year.
Wilburn, a senior from Gilmer, Texas, put together a 14-3 record, 1.85 ERA and 138 strikeouts in 124.2 innings. She recorded 13 complete games and six shutouts, including a no-hitter at USAO on April 10. Wilburn was named SAC pitcher of the week for April 12-18.
Timmermans, a sophomore from Oldenzaal, Netherlands, had a .373 average, nine homers and 44 RBIs.
Lopez, a redshirt freshman from Grand Prairie, Texas, hit .351 with seven homers and 30 RBIs.
Davis, a senior from Muscatine, Iowa, had a .983 fielding percentage in addition to a .289 batting average, eight homers and 27 RBIs.
The Stars, ranked ninth in the NAIA, captured the SAC Tournament championship on Saturday to pick up the conference's berth in the NAIA Championships on May 20-26 in Decatur, Ala.
