OCU's Brown takes first-team all-SAC honors

Chris Brown has posted 20 or more points 10 times this season.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Chris Brown highlighted Oklahoma City University's four all-Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball selections by making first team.

Corey Bingham took third-team honors, while Kavon Lytch and Jerome Phillips made honorable mention.

Brown, a senior from Spencer, Okla., has averaged 17.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.08 steals per game. Brown ranks fourth in the league in scoring.

“Chris has been our leading scorer this year,” OCU coach Kevin Morrissey said. “He's been very consistent and has a great mid-range game. I've always said you're only as good as your seniors.

“Those two in practice, how they carry themselves, the things they say to encourage the team and reinforce what I say have really helped us to get back on the winning track.”

Bingham, a junior from Lynn, Mass., averages 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.20 steals. Bingham stands ninth in the SAC with 2.08 3-pointers made per game.

Lytch, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., totals 14.4 points and 8.3 rebounds a game. His 56.1 percent field-goal percentage ranks fourth in the conference.

Phillips, a senior from Chickasha, Okla., registers 10.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.22 steals a game. Phillips has posted three double-doubles this season.
Cesar Cuevas became an academic all-conference selection.

The Stars (17-8) take on Rogers State at 9:45 p.m. Thursday in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Southern Nazarene.
