BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University will aim for its ninth Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament championship starting with a quarterfinal matchup against Rogers State at 9:45 p.m. Thursday at the Sawyer Center.
The third-seeded Stars finished the regular season at 17-8 and ranked 14th in NAIA Division I. With a win, OCU would face the winner of the Southern Nazarene-Mid-America Christian contest in the tournament semifinals at 8 p.m. Friday.
Chris Brown, a senior from Spencer, Okla., averaged a team-high 17.4 points per game for the Stars. Kavon Lytch, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., recorded 14.4 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds a game, while Corey Bingham, a junior from Lynn, Mass., added 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.20 steals a game.
OCU's SAC Tournament games will be broadcast via live audio on ocusports.com. Greg Merick will call the play-by-play, and Andrew Himes will provide analysis.
Regular-season conference champion Oklahoma Baptist is the tournament's No. 1 seed. OCU won the tournament in 1994, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2006 and 2008.
