ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators recognized Oklahoma City University athletics' marketing and promotions efforts with three “Best Of” awards.

Among Group III, OCU took gold in the new revenue-generating idea, bronze in the sponsorship program and bronze in the television commercial category. OCU competes for these awards against more than 700 NAIA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III schools.

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA Awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 13 categories, with each category divided into three groups based upon institution size and conference affiliations to promote fairness.

OCU's revenue-generating idea was the successful Sports Spectacular Dinner and Auction. The annual event last took place April 28 at the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum honoring Kansas basketball coach Bill Self.

Previous honorees with the Abe Lemons-Paul Hansen Award for Sports Excellence were Ron Norick, Clay Bennett, Lee Allan Smith, Dr. William Grana, Stanley Draper Jr., Bob Funk, Barry Switzer, Mick Cornett, Bobby Murcer and Bart Conner.

The next OCU Sports Spectacular happens April 27, 2010 at the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

The OCU sponsorship program was the Quizno's Group of the Game promotion for basketball games.

OCU's recognized television commercial was for the Head of the Oklahoma Regatta

OCU also won three NACMA “Best Of” Awards in 2008.

“We're thrilled that NACMA recognized our athletic marketing efforts again this year with these “Best Of” awards,” OCU athletic director Jim Abbott said. “We work hard to market and promote our department and its success, and to be acknowledged for our efforts with these prestigious awards is the icing on the cake.”
