JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Oklahoma City University had five champions and 15 placers in the CanAm Open Tournament at Jamestown High School on Saturday.
Stephanie Waters at 44 kilograms, Na'Tasha Umemoto at 51, Michaela Hutchison at 55, Sheila McCabe at 63 and Brittany Delgado at 82 captured titles for the Stars, the defending WCWA and NWCA National Duals champions.
Umemoto highlighted OCU's effort by pinning the top-ranked individual at 51 kilos, Katherine Fulp-Allen of Menlo (Calif.). Umemoto, a freshman from Portland, Ore., had been ranked third among collegiate women's wrestlers at 51.
OCU finalists were Ashley Hudson (59) and Tessa Plana (63). Taking third were Taylor Busboom (44), Nicole Woody (48), Kirsten Strickler (55), Audrey Morehouse (59), Laura Ponshock (63) and Melissa Simmons (72).
Karon Scott placed fourth at 95, and Brittany Roberts took fifth at 67.
OCU competes in the Harry Gerris Open on Dec. 4-5 in Williamsburg, Ky.
