SHREVEPORT, La. - Oklahoma City got off to a hot start to the 2010 campaign, notching a 5-0 victory in their season opener against LSU-Shreveport on Saturday morning.
The offense was on a tear, firing off 28 shots, 18 of which were on goal in the contest. Malin Andersson, a senior from Huskvarna, Sweden, led the charge with 6 shots on goal, and two of which found their target.

The Stars begin the year ranked 25th in NAIA women's soccer.

Oklahoma City University is looking to continue where they left off in the 2009 postseason and keep its hot foot alive. For the Stars to return to the national stage, maintaining health and rebounding from injuries that plagued last year will be paramount.

OCU went 11-7-1 after a slow start and fell one match shy of nationals after falling in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament championship game.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has jumped into the NAIA women’s soccer preseason rankings at No. 25.

The Stars are coming off an 11-7-1 season, which saw them fall in the Sooner Athletic Conference title match to miss the national tournament last year.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Additions and improvements to Oklahoma City University’s soccer facilities continue to occur with a new ticket booth and scoreboard being installed at Stars Field this August to cap off another successful enhancement project.

The scoreboard will be dedicated this fall along with a ticket booth funded by Paul and Kim Sanders, who have also generously funded the ticket booths at Jim Wade Stadium and Abe Lemons Arena.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University held the runner-up spot in the preseason Sooner Athletic Conference women’s soccer poll.

The Stars garnered two first-place votes from league coaches. OCU posted an 11-7-1 record last year and advanced to the SAC Tournament title match.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has added Alissa Reed of Fort Worth, Texas to its women’s soccer team.

Reed, a goalkeeper, posted 12 shutouts and a 0.44 goals-against average for Fort Worth Nolan Catholic (Texas). Reed joins Meghan McMahon of Putnam City North as future Stars.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University assistant soccer coach Billy Martin has been named the Oklahoma Soccer Association state boys competitive youth coach of the year.

Martin has been coaching youth soccer since 1990 and is in his second year with the Oklahoma Football Club ‘92. Martin will be given his award Jan. 23, 2010 at the Sheraton Hotel, 1 N. Broadway Avenue in Oklahoma City.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University soccer coach Brian Harvey has been selected to the Oklahoma Soccer Association Hall of Fame class of 2010.

Harvey has captured the most men’s and women’s victories of any soccer coach in NAIA history. He has coached the soccer programs at OCU since their inception. The men began in 1986, while the women started in 1994.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sarah Leonard of Oklahoma City University has been named an NAIA women’s soccer honorable-mention all-American, announced by the NAIA on Friday.

Leonard, a senior from West Yorkshire, England, became a two-time all-American after being named honorable mention as a sophomore.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University’s Sarah Burnett, Alex Miley and Brittany Tibbs each were named NAIA women’s soccer scholar-athletes, announced by the NAIA recently.

Award winners must hold a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade-point-average and be a junior or senior in academic standing.
